The first posthumous exhibition of Anikó Loránt, who passed away in 2020, attracted great interest last year at Budapest Gallery. Curated by Lívia Páldi, the exhibition provided a comprehensive overview of the artist’s multifaceted oeuvre, from videos and installations to panel paintings.
The current exhibition at Kisterem Gallery focuses on Anikó’s most important medium, her work on paper. These intimate-sized works were created with pencil, watercolor, ballpoint pen, crayon, felt-tip pen, paper cutouts, or even a typewriter, mostly on simple A4 or A5 sheets of paper or in sketchbooks. From 2003, at the time she became a mother, drawing at home in the evenings became part of Anikó’s daily routine, resulting in more than two thousand smaller works created until her death.
The exhibition presents a selection of these, with a separate section devoted to the poetic, text-based sheets, which, with their subtle humor and personal touch, represent one of the most characteristic aspects of Anikó Loránt’s art. Using these inscribed works, Randomroutines (Tamás Kaszás and Krisztián Kristóf) is creating a collaborative installation for this occasion, using the method of conditional design.
